Keith Funk
How often should I feed the plants in my landscape?
A: If it’s been more than 3 or 4 weeks since you last fed your gardens, it’s time to do it again. Our Colorado soils are notoriously low in organic matter which correlates to low levels of nitrogen, the big kahuna of the major nutrients plants need to flower and fruit. Adding compost to the soil before planting is great for improving soil structure, but is not a substitute for fertilizer.
Keith Funk is handling our Q & A this year. You may have visited one of Keith’s Denver area gardens on a tour or know him from his years at Echter’s and now at Nick’s Garden Center. For 30 years he’s been heard every Saturday morning from 7-9 with fellow Wise Guy, Jim Borland, on the Garden Wise Radio Show on Legends 810AM.
