Should I test my soil every year?
A: I purchased an inexpensive soil test kit from my local independent garden center to test my pH, Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium levels in my vegetable garden raised beds and was not surprised by the results. While the pH, phosphorus and potassium levels were within acceptable levels, the nitrogen level was so low it didn’t even register. And I add loads of compost to the soil every year and feed on a regular basis. So it’s worth the time to test your soil every year or two.
